a note.

Hi everyone. I wanted to pop on here and address something that I've seen a number of people talk about now. I don't know if it will help or if people will continue to struggle, but I just want to make my piece known.

At its core, this is a horror game designed to explore the limits of your character's mind. Yes, there is a mystery element to it to entice and intrigue both players and characters, but perhaps it was never made fully clear that the mystery is not designed to be solved completely. The best horror, in my opinion, is that which stems from the unknown, and that's absolutely how both Lovecraft and Call of Cthulhu work, which I've always said are a big source of inspiration for this game. The point of the game is to be along for the ride — you can try to put some pieces together to understand what happened here and try to influence what will happen in the future, but there is no solving or fixing things completely.

I'm sorry that the mystery and investigation side of things has been frustrating for many of you, and I apologize for any part I may have had in that. Your characters are just barely over halfway through their first month in what is meant to be a six-month story. I wanted to do a slow roll-out of the mystery and clues and horror elements since there's still so much left, but maybe that's not what anyone was expecting and it's just had a negative affect on your enjoyment of the game.

I was going to mention these in the next log, but now seems a better time. Two new mechanics going into effect immediately that can be used on the current log:
1 AP for an Idea — Designed for those who need a little help. Perhaps they have completely missed a vital clue, or just don't know what to do next, and so their progress has stalled. The outcome of this will help get things back on track.

Insane Insight — For those who cross each threshold below 60, the characters have a moment of clarity that provides a clue or action that might benefit them immediately or at some later stage.
I don't know if these will help enough, but I hope it does something. I'll be adding more things and trying to be clearer about everything in future, including offering help in how best to use certain mechanics that people are struggling with. I just want everyone to enjoy their time here, and I really am sorry that so many of you haven't been the way you deserve to.

Thank you for the update and the clarification on how the game is supposed to work! I'm interested to see how these new AP rewards work in game :D

Huh. I had no clue there was any sort of confusion or frustration like this going on at all.

FWIW: The unsolvability and the fight against an unknown/unseen threat/your own mind aspect is 100% what drew me to the game in the first place! I love psychological aspects of horror, so it's kind of a perfect set up for all the things I adore the most in that genre.
